LIve Better... Longer
Wouldn’t it be great if we could all die young . . . late in life?
As members of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Physicians, we know that there really is no such thing as anti-aging – but we also know that although we all have to get old, you don’t have to get sick and old!
Science is beginning to reveal that vibrant energy, mental clarity, freedom from pain, lowered disease risk and good sex are possible late into life if we work on it. Although modern medicine has extended our lifespan – it hasn’t exended our health span! (Health span is the time you spend health, happy and fruitful)
At Health Builders Wellness Center, our focus is on extending and optimizing your health span. Our bio-marker longevity plan involves measuring dozens of “bio-markers” – tests that when considered all together – identify how healthy you are aging. And anti-aging isn’t for the aged, as 75% of health outcomes later in life are influenced while you are in your 30s, 40s and 50s.
Body Composition Analysis
This is a completely non-invasive test where electrodes are placed on your hand and foot . An analysis of three major components of your body: body fat, body water, and lean body mass are measured. It is performed using state-of-the-art bioelectrical impedance technology as utilized and endorsed by the National Institute of Health and over 3,000 medical clinics worldwide!
% Body Fat: Represents the % of fat which your body consists of, too much, or not enough body fat can contribute to various health problems.
% Body Water: Our bodies contain a large amount of water. That % however, should be within a proper range. Eating too many foods to which you are allergic to will promote an increased % of water weight, as will mineral and endocrine imbalances. On the other hand, many people are in a chronic state of dehydration and “diets” cause a loss of water weight while fat stores are unaffected. Ideally, your body water % will improve as you lose fat, gain lean tissue, and develop a habit of consuming adequate water.
% Lean Body Mass: Lean body tissue consists mostly of water, muscles, organs, blood cells and bone. Lean body tissue is the only tissue of the body which “burns” calories. The greater your lean body mass %, the more calories your body will “burn” and the higher your metabolism will be. A high lean body tissue % is associated with good health and fitness.
What is the difference between overweight and overfat?
The most common means of detecting overweight has been the bathroom scale. This is not an accurate indicator because it tells you about the quantity of body weight, but not the quality. The quality of the body weight is the critical factor. Some people may look thin in clothes and be relatively normal in comparison to height-weight tables, yet they are overfat from lack of exercise.
Studies have shown that the greater one’s % of muscle to fat the lower the risk of dying prematurely from any cause! The results of this test is the best predictor of living a long and healthy life.
How is this different than what is done at my local gym?
Unlike “caliper” measurements or devices that you hold with your hands, our technology is considered second only to the “water tank” method generally available in university settings.
How much does it cost? Will my insurance pay?
The fee for the initial body composition analysis (along with the computerized exercise program) as well as a consultation with a physician or nutritionist to go over findings and recommendations . . . $55
Follow-up test and consultation . . . $30
Insurance coverage varies from plan to plan. There is a possibility of coverage with a physician referral.
